How do i go from straight hair to curly artistic looking hair without applying heat or damaging it?

i used to have long hair but i had to cut it due to severe damage. My hair is growing back [its just below my shoulders now] but now i am wondering how to get from plain and straight to curly or wavy.Any ideas?How do i go from straight hair to curly artistic looking hair without applying heat or damaging it?
one way to do it is use hair rollers before u go to bed.

when you wake up next day, you will have nice wavy hair....



if you want it to last then apply some hair wax or spray....

It really depends on what kind of hair you have, and what your looking for...but basically if you have very very straight hair, your only option may be a curling iron/hot curlers. You may be able to experiment with some various creams, gels, spray, serums, etc as well as shampoos and conditioners. I have used Garnier Fructis products with great success, as well as any type of ';sprunching'; spray/gel. It will mostly take a lot of trial and error, because it all depends on what kind of hair you have. Good luck :)
