How can I make my hair curly without putting an S-Curl relaxer in it?

I just cut my hair lower in order to grow out my perm. I want to get a mohawk next week. I want the top curly, but how can I get it curly without putting chemicals in my hair? How can I make my hair curly without putting an S-Curl relaxer in it?
It depends on your own hair. Most blacks have 1 of 2 hair types: 4a or 4b or a combination of the two. 4a is tight curls and coils - coils = beebees. 4b is where the strands form a z-pattern with no curls - it's a tight z-shape.

If you have a 4b hair type then you can't get a curl unless you use a chemical or fake it like using rollers or something.

For 4a hair you have to find the right products that will bring out your natural curl/coil. You can try a soft gel like IC Fantasia or a curl activator. Creams work best on curly hair. If your hair is straight when it's cut short then you have to let it grow a little longer before it'll start to curl. How can I make my hair curly without putting an S-Curl relaxer in it?
you could twist or braid it individually wet. let dry overnight and take them out the next day. it should be curly

Can people with curly hair straigten their hair and then curl it?

I have shoulder length curly hair and when I straighten it it is much longer. Prom is this weekend and I really want to curl my hair, but with big smooth curls. Can I straighten my hair and then curl it so that my hair is longer? Or will that not work as well since I already straigtened it? If you have tried before, please let me know how it worked. Also, if you have any other hair ideas for prom, let me know. I'm getting desperate. Can people with curly hair straigten their hair and then curl it?
People do that all the time. It's probably not the best thing to be doing with your hair but if you do it right, I'm sure it will work. Just remember to use heat protection. AND practice doing that to your hair before the big night. You don't wanna try doing something new when you don't know how it will turn out.

Hope this helped!! :)Can people with curly hair straigten their hair and then curl it?
well, straighting your hair would be a waste of time because when you curl it again, it wont stay that length...it will shrink back up
Yeah, you can do that, it'll look great. I always straighten my hair and then use big curling irons to make it look more smooth and perfect. Go for it. Just use a good heat protecting spray.
well idk y not i gess u culd but it wuld takes more time up!!!!

hope i helped,

Kate:)
yeah you can and yes it will work and look much better aswell try it and you will look stunning for your prom =] x.
I have naturally curly/wavy hair. It is VERY hard to curl it once you have straightened it. If you can, go to your stylist and have then do something for you, it would be a lot easier!
I can't. My hair is very, very fine, but naturally curly (ringlets, not corkscrews). When I straighten it (which I do every day), it is nigh impossible to hold curl in it until after I wash it again.

When I curl my hair (which I do a couple times a month), I don't straighten it. I just blowdry it as straight as possible, and then I take my curling iron and curl it in layers and curl it clockwise and then counterclockwise and clockwise and counterclockwise.... with each curl I do. It look incredible after. Definitely worthy of prom.
you have made a break through, yes you always straighten your hair and if you want it curly curl it after. always. i am multi racial and have naturally curly and fluffy hair and what you need to do is start very clean, i mean squeeky make sure all old oil is off, then straighten then in sections curl and bobby pin up when done with whole head let stand an addition 10 to 20 minutes. i never need hair spray but if you hair is ';fine'; when straight and you think you need it spray it. bobby pinning it up while the curls cool will make them stay when your hair drops when hot it doesnt take as well think of it as hot rollers but ten zillion times better because the iron gets hotter and lets face it you need a heavy crome barrel and intence heat for amazing (i mean amazing) curls. let me know how it goes ask how do i thank this brilliant stranger...
You can definitely do that. I know lots of girls in my school do it, but I never have needed to because my hair's not curly. I really would recommend testing the look first, because although it works for most people, my one friend did that look for homecoming and the curls didn't last - it just went back to being straight. I'm pretty sure to make the look last and work you would want to use a heat protector first and then be pretty generous with the hairspray when you're curling it. It must be really damaging, but it is very CUTE!

Oh, if I were a curly girl, I would play up my natural curls for prom. And I mean go for wild curls - like Helena Bonham Carter:

Then I would add an accessory to my hair like a small tiara or some gem hair clips. If my hair wasn't long enough to do it I would get some extensions.
You can but I would experiment first. I find that curls generally hold better on curly hair as opposed to straight although this is not always the case. Try curling on your curly hair and then try curling after straightening. Either way I am sure it will look cute. :)

How would you make African-American hair look naturally curly?

Like a Spanish type of look, where it's tame but curly and natural-looking at the same time. Does it require going to the salon or can you do it at home. Is it an easy process? How would you make African-American hair look naturally curly?
It depends on how thick it is. I know exactly what you are talking about. Try a really good deep conditioner. If this doesn't work then a texturizer should do it. Texturizers aren't as strong as perms, they still leave some of the natural curl in there. Perms would just straighten the hair. How would you make African-American hair look naturally curly?
Go to SuperCuts, they will hook you up
u have to get a curly perm not a relaxer
Because I dont know your hair, it would be hard to say. I would defiantly go to the salon. They may have a special product, or maybe even a perm. Anything is possible, it may be more difficult to do, but they can do different things depending on your hair.

How to get curly hair straight after the shower without the poof!?

Is there some kind of shampoo, conditioner, etc that will get curly hair straight after a shower without all the poof? How to get curly hair straight after the shower without the poof!?
I use bedhead ';moisture maniac'; in the shower, shampoo and conditioner, it helps with the frizz a bit, I think. When I get out of the shower I use bed head ';control freak'; straightening serum and comb it through my hair, and then in the front of my hair where it tends to get realy frizzy I put a little bit of bumble and bumble grooming cream. I just keep combing my hair while it dries, I don't bother blowing it straight cause whenever I try that my hair gets really poofy, but I don't have a defuser... If you want to blow your hair straight you should use a defuser. Anyway, keep combing your hair while it dries and then just flat iron anything that didn't stay straight. If I had to recommend just one product it'd be the ';control freak'; serum, though, it takes the frizz right out of my hair and gives it a nice shine! Good luck! How to get curly hair straight after the shower without the poof!?
wet to dry straightner.. put a heat protecting sreum in first.

Can people with curly hair skip shampoo and just use conditioner?

I have very thick hair that is pretty curly and ive heard before that its best for my texture to skip shampoo. Any one else tried this? How did it work out for you?

Thanks! Can people with curly hair skip shampoo and just use conditioner?
people saying eww no..are wrong.

I can skip shampoo if I want to.

shampoo dries out my hair, and the conditioner makes it soft and renewed.

love your curls!

you can skip shampoo a couple times a week,it won't kill your hair and it won't make it greasy.

trust me,I have thick curly hair too.

by the way,if you hair is hard to comb, get an ouchless brush and then while the conditioner is in your hair, brush it,then rinse.works for me!Can people with curly hair skip shampoo and just use conditioner?
Don't. It makes your hair super greasy.
noo it'll be greesy and all icky

u should use alot of conditioner

ew no!

can you imagine what your hair would look like if you never shampood it and just put conditioner in it!??? it'd would be super greasy in about three days!!
I have very curly hair and I found out that shampoo was the key to the health of my hair. I wold wash and condition every other day. It kept my curls soft and natural. It is essential to use shampoo with very curly hair. Dirt weighs down your hair. Wash it as much as possible.

I gave up on hair styling because my hair was so curly. So instead of walking around looking like Orphan Annie I have dredlocs and I still wash my hair every other day.
gross..no the shampoo is the most important part its what actually cleans your hair. the conditioner just detangles it.
A good idea is to condition every shower and shampoo every other shower. For maximum moisture and healthy curls, after rinsing out all of the product in your hair, take a dab of your conditioner and work it through your hair but leave it in don't rinse it out. Style your hair as usual, spray leave in conditioner, mouse or gel and you'll notice a huge difference!
If it works for you, go for it... but I don't advise never washing it again. I have naturally curly hair, and normally curly hair people gunk up their hair with a ton of products to keep the frizz down, so if this is the case, you'll want to wash it about 3 times a week to remove build up.

Everyone's hair is different. I've always been told to not wash your hair every day, and that 3-4 times is optimum, but I have very greasy hair and must wash it every day. So if you can make it a few extra days not washing it, more power to you. I also deep condition it once a week or twice if I've been in the sun or pool / ocean a lot that week.
People with curly or very wavy hair usually have drier, frizzier hair than people with straight hair. This is because the oil cannot move down the hair as easy. You should brush your hair gently but a lot at least once a day to distribute the natrual oil. It's good to skip washing alltogether whenever you can to give your hair a break. Try only shampooing your scalp, when you rinse it will clean the rest of your hair but without drying it as much. You can also only use conditioner on the ends to keep your scalp from being as greasy. A good 5 minute rinse is better than a shampoo, it's perfectly fine to skip it once in a while, and much healthier for your hair!

  • How do I make my hair curly like the hair stlist does?

My hair never stays curly when I do it. It usually falls flat within ten minutes, no matter how much hairspray I use.

Last time I got my hair cut, she styled it for me and used a flat iron to make curls and gave it so much body, and it stayed that way all day.

Are there any tricks I'm supposed to do to get my super fine and straight hair to cooperate and be curly? How do I make my hair curly like the hair stlist does?
I have the SAME problem. lol

I use curl boosting moose and plenty, plenty of hairspraiy. also I use volumizing shampoo and conditioner! I hope this helps! Good Luck :)How do I make my hair curly like the hair stlist does?
Hello. Is it possible to get a slight curl perm? Have you tried a wet set? Depending on your type of hair, you could always try clip in

body wave curls. I'll tell you this much the you would have so much fun!
First thing is you need products in your hair (all thru all your hair then REAL dry) Larger curling iron or flat iron will do.....Curling iron just hold it next to your head and twist the hair around it ......and using the flat iron you start close to your head clamp down on the hair turn the iron over and pull it straight away from your head it takes some practice curl away from your face for that soft cool look......good luck .......Wacker
I curl my hair everyday using hot curlers. I first pull it over my shoulders. Then apply mousse on to a small section of hair. Then I put in the curler. I do that all over. I only curl up to my chin, but you could go all the way to your scalp. Then I spray it w/ hair spray. Then I put on my make up...by the time that's over, the mousse is dry. But I spray it again just for safe keeping. And if I am scared that it wont stay, I use a hair dryer on it for a few seconds to make sure all the product is dry...THEN I take out the curlers, run my fingers thru it and shake my head around a bit to loosen the curls. Shew! It sounds like alot but it doesnt take that long. If you curl the crown w/ large curlers it will give it alot of body. And be sure to use mousse that will dry soft and not hard and crusty. LOL! The more you do it, the easier it is and you can train your hair to being that way. :)
grab a section of hair, hair spray it and then curl it.

What are good hair styling ideas / products for thick curly hair?

I am getting my hair cut probably tomorrow and I have thick wavy/curly frizzy hair (medium brown) and i am prob gonna cut it to my shoulders... any helpful ideas on how to cut it and are there any products out there that will help not make it so frizzy? What are good hair styling ideas / products for thick curly hair?
I would get it layered and use Garnier Fructis shampoos and conditioners with Tresseme mousse.

    Also-

After you shampoo and condition rinse your hair with cool water that brings out shine and reduces frizz.

Let your hair air dry. Don't use a hairdryer or diffuser everyday. Its murder on your hair.
